University of Ottawa, Common Law Section
The Faculty of Law, Common Law Section is one of the largest law schools in Canada. Located in the National Capital of Canada, within walking distance to Parliament, the Supreme Court of Canada, the Federal Court and the Superior Court of Justice, we offer an unparalleled learning environment.
The Faculty of Law, Common Law Section has an institutional commitment to social justice. You will be involved with a solid basic legal curriculum enriched by an emphasis on critical thinking skills. The University of Ottawa provides the best opportunity in the world to study common law and civil law in English, French or both. We will see that you are well prepared for private practice or public service, for Bay Street or Main Street, in Canada or abroad. Our tuition is among the lowest in Ontario, and we have numerous scholarships and bursaries to help fund your education.
We are a full service law school with strength across the board. In particular we draw your attention to our concentrations in Advocacy, Environmental Law, International Law, and Technology Law. We have three clinics where students may receive hands-on training in the practice of law. Every upper year student may be placed in a work study internship for academic credit in the courts, tribunals, government, non-governmental organizations or the private sector. Our students come from every part of Canada and abroad. Many enroll in combined JD programs or participate in international exchanges with leading law schools from around the world.
We invite you to investigate these points and more by studying our website. We hope you will consider joining other exceptional students at our very special law school.
