Andrew was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1994. Andrew studied law at McGill University in Montreal where he received a Bachelors in Common Law (LL.B.) as well as a Bachelors in Civil Law (B.C.L.) in 1993. Andrew also studied law at the London School of Economics and Political Science (L.S.E.) in London, England in 1991-92 where he earned a Masters degree in Law (LL.M) from the University of London in 1992. Before law school, Andrew studied French and History at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia where he received his B.A.(Honours) in 1986.
Prior to founding Lister and Associates in 2009, Andrew worked at several different law firms in Toronto and Ottawa as a summer student, articling student, associate and partner. Since becoming a lawyer in 1994, Andrew has acted for all manner of different types of clients: from governments, banks, school boards, hospitals, utilities, crown corporations, trade unions, government agencies, businesses (large and small), charitable organizations, to many hundreds of individuals. He regularly appears before all levels of provincial and federal courts, administrative tribunals, professional disciplinary boards, boards of arbitration, labour relations boards and tribunals, and human rights tribunals and commissions. Andrew is fluently bilingual and regularly represents clients in French.
In addition to practicing law, Andrew also teaches. He has taught Industrial Relations and Public Administration at Carleton University at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. He is also a part-time Professor at the Faculty of Law at the University of Ottawa where he teaches a course in Advanced Employment Law. Between 2000 and 2008, Andrew was also an Instructor in the Law Society of Upper Canada’s Bar Admission and Lawyer Certification courses. Andrew regularly speaks at continuing legal education conferences. Andrew is also an active member in the County of Carleton Law Association, the Canadian Bar Association and the Advocates’ Society.

Originally from Ottawa, Andrew is a strong believer in community involvement. In addition to his legal work, Andrew has sat on a number of different charitable Boards of Directors since returning to Ottawa in 1993. He became involved in the Ottawa Boys and Girls Club shortly after returning to Ottawa and sat on that Board for 8 years (including a term as President of the Board in 2000-2002). Andrew also sat on the Board of Directors of the Ottawa Chamber Music Society between 2002 and 2008 (including a term as President of the OCMS Board from 2004-06). Most recently, Andrew has participated in Great Canadian Theatre Company’s 2003, 2004, 2007 and 2008 Lawyers’ Plays (annual fund raiser for the GCTC and local charities). For the 2009 production, Andrew chairs the Lawyers’ Play Committee which works with the Ottawa legal community, sponsors, charities and the GCTC to produce the Lawyers’ Play. In his spare time, Andrew plays soccer and chauffers his children to and from sporting and cultural activities.
