Information:

Graeme G. Mitchell, Q.C. is Director of the Constitutional Law Branch of the Saskatchewan Ministry of Justice and Attorney General in Regina, Saskatchewan. He holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Music from the University of Regina (1975), a Bachelor of Laws from Osgoode Hall Law School (1980) and a Masters of Law from the University of Chicago Law School (1989). He represents the Attorney General for Saskatchewan before all levels of Saskatchewan courts, and the Supreme Court of Canada. He has represented the Attorney General in over forty (40) appeals in the Supreme Court, including Reference re Secession of Quebec; Reference re Firearms Act (Canada); R. v. Stillman; R. v. Mills; Chatterjee v. Ontario (Attorney General); Reference re Assisted Human Reproduction Act, and most recently Reference re Proposed Canadian Securities Act. He is a Sessional Lecturer at the College of Law, University of Saskatchewan where he has taught Advanced Constitutional Law and Appellate Advocacy, and teaches the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms to judges through the auspices of the National Judicial Institute. He writes extensively on constitutional, criminal and administrative law issues. He served as an elected Bencher of the Law Society of Saskatchewan (2000-2006). Currently, he is the Law Society of Saskatchewan’s representative on the Council of the Federation of Law Societies of Canada, and Past Chair of the National Constitutional and Human Rights Law Section of the Canadian Bar Association. He was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1998.
