James Hendry
Part-time Professor
James Hendry obtained his LLB from the University of Ottawa in 1979 and was called to the Ontario Bar in 1981. He engaged in private practice in general civil litigation in Ottawa until 1984. He was counsel at the Canadian Human Rights Commission from 1984 to 1989 providing advice on administrative and human rights matters to the Commission and engaging in the Commission’s litigation before the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal and the courts at all levels across Canada. He joined the Human Rights Law Section at the Department of Justice (Canada) in 1989 where was General Counsel. From May, 1999 to May, 2000, he was the Research Director with the Canadian Human Rights Act Review Panel chaired by the Honourable Gérard La Forest. From January to June, 2005, he was a Visiting Scholar at Harvard Law School on a Canada-U.S. Fulbright Scholarship working on the issue of equality rights in a modern democracy. He is Editor-in-Chief of, and contributor to, Charter and Human Rights Litigation, a journal published by Federated Press. He has presented and written many articles on the Charter and human rights legislation and has published articles on equality, economic rights and social justice in the National Journal of Constitutional Law, the Supreme Court Law Review, La Carta Canadiense de Derechos Y Libertades Bajo Perspectivas Europas, Acts Del IX Congresso Asociacion Espanaola de Estudios Canadienses, ed.
