John has conducted hundreds of trials and has appeared frequently in the Ontario Court of Appeal and the Divisional Court of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice. He has also lectured at Carleton University and presented at the prestigious Canadian Institute. He has been invited to co-run the intensive Advanced Advocacy Course at the University of Ottawa’s Common Law Program in January 2012.
In November 2005, John was selected as one of ten members of the newly formed Investor Advisory Committee established by the Ontario Securities Commission. During his two-year term he helped identify and address issues affecting investors.
John is responsible for the mentoring and advocacy training programs at Doucet McBride. He also includes young lawyers from other firms in his innovative Advocacy Club, which fosters both skills and collegiality. John presents courses that train young lawyers to deal with expert witnesses, and he is in the process of developing a training program in interviewing skills for professionals outside law. He has written and self-published a book on interview skills for professionals, and is completing his second book, “How Lawyers Interview Clients”. His blog, highlights his views about the interview process for lawyers.
