Louis J. Kotzé

Louis Kotzé (B. Com, LLB, LLM, LLD) is Professor of Law at the Faculty of Law of the North-West University (Potchefstroom Campus), South Africa where he heads the post-graduate LLM programme in Environmental Law and Governance. He is the author, co-author, and co-editor of publications on themes related to South African, regional and international environmental law. His current research specifically focuses on issues of environmental rights, global environmental governance, and the role of the judiciary in environmental law and governance. He is assistant editor of the Potchefstroom Electronic Law Journal and the South African Journal of Environmental Law and Policy and serves as member on the advisory editorial committees of various international environmental law journals including, among others the Journal of Human Rights and the Environment and the Flemish Journal of Environmental Law. Louis is visiting Professor at the University of Giessen, Germany, and a member of, among others, the IUCN Commission on Environmental Law, the IUCN Academy of Environmental Law, the Volkswagen Stiftung Global Young Faculty, the Global Ecological Integrity Group and the Environmental Law Association of South Africa. He is an Alexander von Humboldt fellow and is currently (2010-2012) working on a post-doctoral research project at the Max Planck Institut für ausländisches öffentliches Recht und Völkerrecht, Heidelberg Germany.
