Brian Dickson Memorial Lecture
On Monday, September 26, 2011 the University of Ottawa Civil Law and Common Law Sections, along with the Supreme Court of Canada, will have the pleasure of presenting the Brian Dickson Lecture, featuring our very special guest speaker, The Right Honourable Baroness Brenda Hale of Richmond, Justice of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom.
Lady Hale will present a lecture entitled “Women and Children Last? Migration and Family Life,” addressing the relationship between family life and immigration control. The evening will begin with Lady Hale’s lecture at 5:00 p.m. in the Gowlings Moot Court room, followed by a reception at 6:00 p.m. in the Tsampalieros Atrium on the third floor.
Lady Hale became the United Kingdom’s first woman Lord of Appeal in Ordinary in January 2004, after a varied career as an academic lawyer, law reformer, and judge. In October 2009, The Supreme Court replaced the Appellate Committee of the House of Lords as the highest court in the United Kingdom. Lady Hale is the first woman Justice of The Supreme Court.
Please RSVP to clawrsvp@uottawa.ca by Sept. 19, 2011. This lecture will take place in English only.
