Professor Currie at Review Conference of Rome Statute of ICC
Professor John Currie is currently attending the Review Conference of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in Kampala, Uganda. The purpose of the Review Conference, which runs from May 31 – June 11, 2010, is to appraise the functioning of the ICC and the Rome Statute over the past decade; and to consider potential amendments to the Rome Statute in light of that appraisal.
Prof. Currie, who is attending the Review Conference as a member of the Canadian delegation, has a particular interest in proposals to define the crime of aggression so as to bring this aspect of the ICC’s jurisdiction into effect. His attendance at the Review Conference is also the first stage in a two-year SSHRC-funded research project he is undertaking along with Professors Joanna Harrington (University of Alberta), Darryl Robinson (Queen’s University) and Valerie Oosterveld (University of Western Ontario).
