Professor Nicole LaViolette ('96) Appears Before Parliamentary Committee on Human Rights
On February 17, 2011, Professor Nicole LaViolette ('96) appeared before the House of Commons Subcommittee on International Human Rights of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development to address the treatment of sexual minorities in Uganda.
Prof. LaViolette suggested that many individuals in Uganda have a well-founded fear of persecution based on their sexual orientation or sexual identity. “I would like to suggest that the situation of sexual minorities in Uganda is likely to improve if pressure is brought to bear on the government of Uganda,” she said.
