Prof. Larocque publishes Civil Actions for Uncivilized Acts
Professor François Larocque has published the first Canadian single-author treatise on transnational human rights litigation entitled,
Civil Actions for Uncivilized Acts (Irwin Law).

The book is a study on the adjudicative jurisdiction of US, UK and Canadian courts in transnational human rights proceedings, that is, civil lawsuits for extraterritorial violations of international norms protecting the human person. Using the United States’ experience under the
Alien Tort Statute as a starting point, the book goes on to examine on what basis Canadian and UK courts can assert jurisdiction over transnational human rights claims without the benefit of similar legislation, focussing on a range of connected issues including the common law reception of customary international law, jurisdiction simpliciter, forum non conveniens and state immunity. With a foreword by the Honourable Louise Arbour, CC, GOQ.
