On April 17-18 at the University of Ottawa, the Assocation of Canadian Studies organized a conference titled "Checking Our Constitution at 30: The Influence of the Canadian Constitution and the Charter of Rights and Freedoms on Legislation, Identities and Federalism."

April 17th

- The opening remarks were provided by Pascale Fournier (Faculty of Law, University of Ottawa), Jack Jedwab (Executive Director, Association for Canadian Studies) and Peter Oliver (Faculty of Law, University of Ottawa).
- The first panel of the day, "The Constitution, Constitutional Reform and Federalism in Canada," featured Bruce Ryder (Osgoode Hall Law School), Warren Newman (senior general counsel, Department of Justice Canada), Peter Oliver (University of Ottawa), Graham Fox (President, Institute for Research on Public Policy) and interim Liberal leader Bob Rae.

- The second panel of the day of April 17, "Crimes of Honour, Canadian Values & Regard for the Law," featured Patrick Healy (Court of Quebec Criminal and Penal Division), Shahrzad Mojab (Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto, expert witness at the Shafia trial), Margarida Garcia (University of Ottawa), Pascale Fournier (University of Ottawa), Pascal McDougall, (University of Ottawa) and Aurore Schwab (University of Geneva, Switzerland).
