perry-harrison.jpgHubert H. Harrison (1883-1927) was one of the most important African American intellectuals of the early 20th century. He immigrated from the Danish West Indies (now the US Virgin Islands) to the United States in 1900 and was a leading advocate of empowerment for African Americans.  He directly influenced many younger activists including A. Phillip Randolph, who went on to co-organize many civil rights marches.

Dr. Perry is an independent scholar who has written a biography of Hubert Harrison, published by Columbia University Press.
