Vancouver
Student should be aware of the Vancouver Bar Association (VBA) Guidelines. In the past some firms adhered to them, and some did not. We expect that most Vancouver firms will now comply.
- Deadline for Applications: Not earlier than Friday, June 29, 2012
- Communication of Time and Date of Interviews: Not before 8:00 a.m. PST on Friday July 13, 2012
- Interview Week: Week of August 13 - August 17, 2012
- Communication of Offers: Not before 8:00 a.m. PST on Thursday, August 16, 2012
Virtually all first interviews are conducted on Monday and Tuesday of interview week so you should make sure you are in Vancouver on Monday.
You should plan to stay in Vancouver until later in the day on Wednesday or early Thursday so that you are free to attend second interviews and/or re-visit firms you are interested in to meet more people, should you be invited and wish to do so.
The Law Society of BC sets an “offer date” – offers must remain open until this date. This is a Law Society rule and not part of the VBA guidelines, so all employers in the designated area must comply. Some smaller and mid-size downtown Vancouver firms will interview before the VBA interview week and make offers before the VBA call date; however they MUST comply with the Law Society rule and keep offers open until 8:00 a.m. PST on August 17, 2012.
