Counselling & Referrals

Student Services is pleased to offer counselling services to all Common Law students.  The Manager, Equity and academic Success, a qualified counsellor, will work with students to help them clarify various personal issues and learn strategies that can help them cope with the challenges that they face in their educational, personal and professional lives in order to have a successful experience in law school.

The counselling services offered are free and confidential.

Students may seek counselling for a variety of reasons and our counsellor is prepared to assist students with such issues as: stress, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, family/relationship concerns, time management, etc.

Please note that University of Ottawa’s Counselling & Coaching Service also provides counselling support to Common Law students. For a consultation, please call 613-562-5200. Counselling Service is located at 100 Marie-Curie (Health Services building), 4th floor. For additional information, visit their website.

Should you require longer-term therapy or more specialized assistance referrals can be made to an appropriate service. Common referrals include those to psychologists/counsellors in private practice, various community resources, or The Ontario Lawyers’ Assistance Program (OLAP).

To schedule an appointment, please contact Christine McAllister at the Student Services reception by phone at ext. 2514 or in person in FTX 233.
