What’s Hot at the High Court? Supreme Court of Canada Fall 2014 Preview

This fall, the Supreme Court of Canada will hear a number of important cases.  Members of the University of Ottawa’s Public Law group will discuss some of the most noteworthy issues before the Court on October 3, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the National Press Building.  This session is exclusively for journalists.

Event: “The Legacy of Raoul Wallenberg: A Panel on Genocide Prevention” – September 30, 2014

Recently posthumously rewarded US Congressional Gold Medal and an honorary citizen of Canada, the Swedish diplomat Raoul Wallenberg is renowned worldwide for his successful efforts to save the lives of tens of thousands of Jews from the Nazi persecution during the Second World War, by handing out protective Swedish passports.  Click here for more information.


Dean Des Rosiers Wins Prestigious Walter Owen Book Prize!

The Foundation for Legal Research (FLR) has awarded its 2014 Walter Owen Book Prize to Louise Langevin, Nathalie Des Rosiers and Marie-Pier Nadeau for their book, L’indemnisation des victimes de violence sexuelle et conjugale, 2nd Edition, published by Yvon Blais. (details)

uOttawa Community Legal Clinic Receives Funding for Family Law

Legal Aid Ontario (LAO) is providing over $2 million over three years to six university-operated legal clinics to provide family law services for low-income Ontarians.  uOttawa’s Community Legal Clinic is among the clinics that will receive funding. (details)

The International Law Group at the Faculty of Law, University of Ottawa has the pleasure of inviting you to the International Law Speaker Series Lecture by Dr. M. Cherif Bassiouni on Wednesday, September 24 from 4:00 – 5:30 p.m. in FTX 147.  His topic will be: “Violence in the Middle East: Syria, Iraq, Libya, Gaza and Egypt”.  The lecture will be followed by the International Law Fall Social,  sponsored by the Canadian Council on International Law, to be held at the Laurier Social House (formerly the Hilltop RestoBar) at 244 Laurier East from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. (details)
