Roundtable on the Role of Law in the Advancement of Language
In celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Official Languages Act, the Faculty of Law will host a roundtable on the role of law in the advancement of language on Friday, September 11, 2009 at 4 p.m. in the Gowlings Moot Court Room (FTX 147).Invited guests include the Honourable Michel Bastarache (’78), former Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada, and first Associate Dean of uOttawa’s French Common Law Program; Rénald Rémillard, Director, Fédération des associations de juristes d’expression française; Nathalie Des Rosiers, General Counsel and Executive Director, Canadian Civil Liberties Association; and Sandra Inutiq, Office of the Languages Commissioner of Nunavut. The Commissioner of Official Languages, Graham Fraser, will make opening remarks.
A reception will follow the roundtable in the Tsampalieros Atrium, where tribute will be paid to past language commissioners, Keith Spicer, Max Yalden, Victor Goldbloom and Dyane Adam.
